It was announced at the beginning of April that the next president of Starr King School for the Ministry will be the Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt.

Rev. McNatt has been the senior minister of Fourth Universalist Society in New York City since 2001.Rosemary-Bray-McNatt

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she is a graduate of Yale University and Drew Theological Seminary. An editor and widely anthologized writer for more than 20 years before answering the call to ordained ministry, she is a former editor at the New York Times Book Review, author of three books, including her memoir, Unafraid of the Dark; a former contributing columnist for Beliefnet.com; a contributing editor to UU World, and a prolific blogger on matters ranging from post-election violence in Kenya to presidential politics.

Her years of service to the revrose.com have included work as a member of The Committee on Urban Concerns and Ministry; The Task Force for Strategic Options for Beacon Press; chair of the Board of Trustees of Starr King School for the Ministry, and membership on the UI-JA Panel on Theological Education, as well as the UUA Board of Trustees.

The Rev. Ms. McNatt also served as a faculty member of the 2008 International Council of Unitarian Universalists Leadership Training Conference in Nairobi, Kenya—the first ever such gathering on the African Continent. Rev. McNatt has consistently raised a strong public voice for progressive religion and social justice.

In New York, her work with Moral Mondays and Occupy Faith has established her within a multi-religious activist network that is both local and national in scope. Within theological education, Rev. McNatt has strong relationships with several seminaries, including the one she attended, those at which she teaches (Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York and Yale Divinity School), the school at which she’s a mentoring pastor (Meadville Lombard), and of course with Starr King.

She currently lives in New York City with her husband Robert and their two sons, Allen and Daniel. Rev. McNatt will succeed Rev. Dr. Rebecca Parker, who will retire as president of Starr King on June 30, 2014, after serving for 25 years. Rev. McNatt was named president after an exhaustive nine-month-long search conducted by the Presidential Search Committee appointed by the Board of Trustees. Her appointment as president was approved by a vote of the school’s Board of Trustees on March 31, 2014. She will begin her tenure as president in the Summer of 2014.
